Understanding Prenatal Chiropractic Care
A woman’s body goes through some amazing changes during pregnancy, but these changes can lead to a great deal of discomfort, aches and cramps. As the baby grows and the mom-to-be starts gaining weight, the lower back curvature can increase, causing weight shifting and increased impact on vertebral joints and hips. Here at OptiLife, we love treating expectant moms and their babies.
Prenatal chiropractic care
With our prenatal chiropractic techniques, we can relieve sciatic nerve pain and back- aches, and correct the curvature of the spine and pelvic joints. Mary Nastukov, featured in the video, had severe sciatic nerve pain that made it difficult to walk. Within a week, she was feeling back to normal.
Chiropractic care for infants and children
With such great results during prenatal visits, moms often choose to bring their children in after giving birth. Dr. Danielle Hoeffner incorporates gentle child-specific adjustments to relieve restrictions in the spine that sometimes help alleviate common childhood symptoms, such as such as colic, ear infections, scoliosis and more. It’s important to co-manage chiropractic treatment with a primary care doctor.
We also see moms bring their children in for specific reasons, like Morgan Tapp’s son, Micah. “When Micah was born, he couldn’t turn his head to the right, and I brought him into Dr. Danielle. In one session he was able to move again,” Morgan said.
It is imperative when looking for these treatment options to make sure you attend a facility that specializes in these areas. Dr. Danielle practices with infants and children, while Dr. Erica practices prenatal care, so you are in good hands here at OptLife. If you’re curious to see what our chiropractic care can do for you and your child, please contact us for an appointment.
*Remember to speak with your family doctor or OBGYN before seeking any additional treatment.
What can I expect from my chiropractor during pregnancy?
The doctor should perform a detailed evaluation of your health and medical history during the initial visit. Next, she will explain the normal treatment protocol based on your health and how far along you may be in your pregnancy. The goal is to balance the pelvis and sacrum providing the optimal amount of room for the growth of the fetus during pregnancy. This takes the tension off the Uterus since it is attached to these structures allowing the baby to get into the best birth position.
The Webster technique was developed by Larry Webster, founder of the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association). This technique is composed of a specific sacral adjustment and muscle work to restore balance to the pelvis.
If you are pregnant and are looking for relief, we encourage you to call for an appointment with Dr. Rachel Wroblewski, Webster certified 813 926-9500.
